ACCORDIONIST
Douglas Marcolino
Brazilian
Douglas Marcolino is a young Brazilian accordionist from Nordeste, born in Pernambuco and raised in Alagoas.
Coming from a large family of accordionists, he always has been surrounded by music and from a very young age was immersed in the sounds of Brazilian popular music. At the age of five, his father (Tiao Marcolino, seen as the maestro of the accordion in his country) introduced him to the accordion.
The young apprentice showed a lot of talent for his instrument and learned so quickly that at the time he was eight, he had already participated in the CD of Tiao Marcolino playing a chorinho called « LEMBRANCAS ».
Four years later, learning more each time, Douglas participed for the second time in another CD of Tiao Marcolino, but this time by singing and playing the music "PORTA DA ESCOLA’’.
From the age of twelve, he traveled throughout Brazil playing in several Forro groups.
Thus, in addition to learning the accordion from his father, he was able to develop his own musicality by exchanging experiences with other instrumentalists such as Dominguinhos, Gennaro do acordeon, Hermeto Pascoal, and other artists.
In 2004 he set up his own recording studio (MsomMusic) and recorded until today a large variety of musical styles (Forro, chorinho, samba, pop, classico, jazz, etc…).
In 2010, he was invited to a festival of young talents in Norway (Forde Festivalem).
From there began his great journey throughout Europe, through Africa, playing in countries such as France, Germany, Portugal, the Congo, etc…
In addition to his knowledge of Brazilian music, this great tour brought him closer to the European musical culture and especially jazz.
In 2011, he moved to Paris where he performed with Célia Neusa (singer and Franco-Brazilian panderist) a show called « CLASSICOS FRANCESES EM FORRO ».
This show is the meeting of the great texts of French popular music with the sweet Brazilian musicality.
Today, Douglas Marcolino plays in Brazil and internationally, exhibiting and promoting Brazilian culture and especially Nordeste.
